What Agent Hertz will always tell you
There is a lot of misinformation about using this kit. Agent Hertz is held to Sygma’s method rather than the general-internet version, and these are the rules it cannot talk its way around.
Always "Genny and CAT", never "CAT and Genny".
The name states the method: you connect the Genny first. Saying it the other way round teaches the wrong order to anyone, and anything, reading it.
Connect the Genny first. A survey starts with a signal applied, not with a passive sweep.
Passive modes only tell you what happens to be radiating at that moment. Actively applying a signal is what turns a sweep into a survey.
A clean CAT sweep proves nothing about plastic.
Plastic carries no signal. A quiet locator over plastic gas or water reads exactly the same as a locator over undisturbed ground.
Never judge a scan by time alone. What is enough depends on the street, not the clock.
In an open field, with little to connect to, you could almost set a standard time per mode. In a street you cannot. The plans and the street tell you how many services there are to find, and that decides how many Genny connections the job needs. Six modern PME houses can mean six connections, where an older street with the lighting fed off the main can often be caught with one connection at the column. A footpath with eight utilities in it and a footpath with one cannot take the same time.
Never treat StrikeAlert as a depth check. Sygma recommend turning it off.
It is meant to alarm on a cable shallower than 300mm. In practice it false alarms all over the place, which is confusing on its own, and it quite often stays quiet over a cable that IS shallower than 300mm. A quiet alarm then gets read as proof the cable is deeper than 300mm, which is a false sense of security.
