0:00Great stuff. Uh so it sounds like um you're all quite new to it. So the the the course that we cover is split into two sections really. Section one is about how we actually get the data off the CAT and how we look at that raw data, analyze that raw data. And I'm sure you guys before have seen the pie charts that people come up with, you know, about usage and things. So it's how we get it from the CAT to that stage is is what I call analyze data.
0:30So that's the first part of the session that we do, and the second part of the session is actually what the data means. So we can get it off the CAT, we can analyze it, we can make nice pie charts, but is it good or bad data? What are we actually looking for? So I hope that makes sense to everyone. So it's kind of split into into two sections. Now, for for people like yourselves, one of the difficult things to do is that second part of it, understanding what the data means when you're not very familiar with data.
1:00So what I've suggested to the previous groups is that we concentrate primarily on getting the data off the CAT and and making it look nice. We'll do some stuff on analyzing, but what we might want to do in a few weeks' time, when you've had a chance to go out and use it and collect some data, is we might have a little follow-up session just to look at it in a little bit more detail. Because I'm conscious that there's quite a lot to take in today, and and and especially in terms of what the data means, it might not all make sense straight away. I'm still going to cover it with you, but what I'm trying to say is at the end of the session, if you're still a bit unsure about a few things about what the data means,
1:33I'm quite happy to have a follow-up session with you in a in a couple of weeks once you've had a play with some of your own data, if you like, and we can look at what it means in more detail. Always difficult online to to to get that interaction, as you can imagine. We normally do this face-to-face in an ideal world. But please do get involved. If there's anything you're not sure about, please just stop me and and ask me and we'll and we'll go through it. There's only um five of you on it today, so we've got a nice small group, so we can easily break off and and go through things that you want to expand on and answer questions and stuff. Is that okay for everyone so far? Yeah? Yeah, great stuff.
2:08So, I want to go back to to basics to start off with, um and forgive me if you know this already, but let's first of all just talk about the CATs themselves, because there's often confusion. We get lots of phone calls from people who say, "I'm trying to download data off this CAT and it won't let me," and it turns out it's a CAT that you can't download data off. So, we're using CAT4, and there's six main models of CAT4. Um there's CAT4, CAT4+, eCAT4, eCAT4+, gCAT4, and gCAT4+.
2:41A lot of the stuff I'm going to go through with you as well, I'm going to send you a follow-up email which lists all this, so don't worry about remembering it all. When you see the plus on the CAT, the plus basically means it can do depth on Genny mode. So don't worry too much about this. Nothing to do with data, it just means it can do depth. So you've got three main models of CAT, and then you've got a depth version or a non-depth version of each of those three, if you see what I mean, by the plus. So CAT4 and CAT4+ they're not data-enabled, so we can't download data. And they're the ones I mentioned before where quite often people phone us and say, "I can't get data off this CAT," and it turns out it's a standard CAT4.
3:18A lot of people think that all CAT4s are data-enabled and they're not, okay? So standard CAT4, CAT4+, no data. The next one up is the eCAT4 or the eCAT4+. And the eCAT4 is where it will record data. So it'll record what time it's been used, how long for, what mode it's in, etc., etc. And we can download that data off it using a cable. What the eCAT4 doesn't do is show you where it's been used, so there's no GPS in it, okay? We can just get usage history.
3:49And that was the first real data-collecting CAT4, that was out before the gCAT came out. The gCAT one, so we've got again gCAT4 and gCAT4+, the gCAT does everything that the eCAT does in terms of data download, but in addition to that, it also gives us GPS coordinates. So we can see where the CAT's been used. Oh, excuse me. Now, when you hear me talking about GPS, please understand that it's very inaccurate. It's not used to determine if you picked up a specific cable or exactly where he was,
4:23it's just going to give you a rough location of of where he was working. So it's more to see where he was working, not what cables he's picked up when we talk about GPS. It's a bit like the GPS on your phone, so it's it's very inaccurate. The second thing that the gCAT does that the eCAT doesn't, is it also has a Bluetooth module in it. So we can connect the CAT um to to a phone by Bluetooth and get the data off it that way.

4:58Um so, any questions so far? Is that is that okay? So that's that's the history of the CATs. Some of the things I'm going to talk about on today's session, just so you understand it, and I'll and I'll repeat it a few times. We're going to talk about a program called CAT Manager. We're going to talk about CAT Manager Online, and we're going to talk about um um analyze data.
5:19So CAT Manager, which again I'm going to send you a link to after the session, is a program that you download and install on your computer. And that's the program that we use to interrogate the CAT via a cable. It's the program that we use to pull data off the CAT and pull it onto your computer.
5:37Where it gets confusing is we then have CAT Manager Online. CAT Manager Online is a website basically, it's an online portal, okay? So just understand the difference between those two things when I talk about them. We've got CAT Manager and CAT Manager Online. You might sometimes hear me call it the online portal for that for that second part of it. The traditional way that we used to do this, so back before the gCATs were out, what what would happen is, and and this is the way that people are still doing it, you would install CAT Manager on your computer, and then you would plug the CAT in via a USB cable, and that program would pull off the raw data, okay?
6:14We'd then save that exported raw data file, and then Radiodetection they gave out a spreadsheet, and it was called the CAT Analysis Tool. And every every couple of months they'd update it. I think we got up to about version 79. And even though I say it's a spreadsheet, it was a bit like a mini program in the fact that what you did is you'd you'd open up the CAT Analysis Tool, within that spreadsheet then there was a little button that says "get new data file", you'd click on that and you'd import that raw data file into it.
6:47The CAT Analysis Tool then was the thing that created all your pretty pie charts and and summarized that data, okay? Make sense so far, guys? Yeah? Okay, so that's how we did it. So you had CAT Manager, you took the data off, and you put it into the CAT Analysis Tool. What Radiodetection have now done is they've they've now launched CAT Manager Online, which is a website. And there's two ways that we can interrogate this data now. We can still use part of the traditional way where we plug the CAT into a computer, we use CAT Manager to pull off that raw data file, then we log on to the website, we click upload, and we upload that file to the website, and the website does the analyzing for us, it creates the

7:33So, the idea with the gCAT is it it could bypass that step. So, with a gCAT, what you can still do it that way, you can still plug a gCAT into a computer, you can still pull the data off it, and you can manually upload it. But the the main benefit of the gCAT is that the operator of the CAT would have an app on his phone called CAT Manager, again, and he would put his login and password into that app.
7:59The CAT would then Bluetooth to the phone. So, every time he lets go of the trigger, the data would transfer from the CAT to the phone, and the phone would feed that data into CAT Manager online. So, it completely bypasses that manual stage. And the idea is that you could be sat in your office, and you could literally log on to CAT Manager online and see what the guys have been doing this morning. You didn't have to physically go out and plug in the CAT, okay? Any questions so far, guys? This this all making all making sense? Yeah? Just jump in at any point if you're not sure. So,
8:30there there's two ways of doing it then, in effect, is what I'm trying to get at. Is with an eCAT or a gCAT, we can plug it into the computer, pull the data off it, log on to the website, and upload that data in there, and then look at the data. Or what you can do instead, but only with a G, remember, not with the E, you can have the app on your phone, Bluetooth it to the CAT, and then that'll put it up in the cloud for you, okay? There's pros and cons to each one.
8:57The the the problem that people are having with the Bluetooth side, as you can imagine, is getting the teams to pair the phone to the CAT, data objections, turning Bluetooth off, it not connecting properly. You can imagine all the technical bits, if you like, that are that are involved in trying to set that up. So, a lot of people are still using the the kind of traditional way of just plugging the CAT in and then and then pulling data off, okay? And I'm going to show you all this, by the way, but that was just a brief intro and and summary of what we're going to look at today, okay?
9:32So, let me share my screen with you. Because we're doing it online, there's a few aspects I can't physically show you, and I'll try and talk you through instead.
9:52So, when you've installed CAT Manager, the program, you'll have an icon on your desktop which looks like this, CAT Manager. So, we open up the program. And we get this. When it comes up, it will ask you to log in. You don't need to. You'll only need to log in if you're going to the next level up where you're going to start self-calibrating CATs and things. In order to pull data off a CAT, you don't need to log in for it, okay? You can just click that box and tell it to go away.
10:28The USB port in the CAT is in the battery compartment. So, when you open up the battery compartment, you'll see a black rubber bung, and you pull that bung out and it'll reveal the USB port. So, you plug a USB cable in to the CAT and plug it into your computer. That's step one. At the top of this program then, you'll see two tabs, Software and Data Log. Now, I haven't got a CAT here to plug in, so I'll just talk you through it. But when you plug the CAT in, click on Data Log. And the easiest way to remember this, it's really straightforward to be honest, guys. It says CAT here and PC here.
11:03When you plug a CAT in, it'll give you a list of dates down here that the CAT has got data on. So, just like you can see here, you'll have a list of dates down here for that particular CAT that's plugged in at that time. Now, remember with a CAT, you can't remove data from it, you can only copy it. So, whenever you plug a CAT in, you could have, I mean, some of them now, you could have probably five years of data on there, okay, when you when you first plug it in, okay? You can't you can't remove it for obvious reasons, you can only copy it across.
11:32So, you plug the CAT in and a whole list of dates appear on the left-hand side. What you then do is select the dates that you want. So, you could select one day, or you could select a week, or a month, or a year, it's up to you. Select the dates that you want, and then you hit the transfer button. That then pulls that data from the CAT, and you'll see it appear over here. All right, everyone okay so far? Give us a nod. Yep. Yep. Yep. So, when you when you select dates, it's the same on this side, you basically just click and drag. So, just click and drag and say I want them ones.
11:58Yeah, or you can just click on that one, whichever you want. But you do the same on this side, just click and drag, select the dates that you want, hit transfer, it's on your computer. Takes about 15 seconds. Now, the good thing about that is, I'm not sure how many teams and things you look after, guys, but once you've done that, you can give them the CAT back. So, we have a lot of companies where the supervisors might drive around a couple of sites and and and pull up pull in data from six CATs.
12:33They can literally just drive around, 15 seconds, plug the CAT in, pull the data off, give them the CAT back. You don't need to worry about it then till later. You know, you can keep it there till you've got time to look at it, um, back in the office or whatever else, okay? So, getting the data off the CAT is very, very simple and is very, very quick. It's a 15-second job and you're done. So, you've collected the data off the CAT now, you've given the CAT back. What we now need to do is is kind of create that raw data file, okay?
13:05One thing to be careful of, let's say you, um, you're responsible for 10 CATs. When you've downloaded those 10 CATs onto your computer, when you click on this drop-down box here, you'll have a list of all the serial numbers that you've ever downloaded. So, what what the reason I'm saying this is important, let's just go back to a cable strike, for example. You've you've had a cable strike, you want to look at the data, you might have, over the last month, you might have downloaded 10 CATs. So, when you look over here, there'll be 10 CATs in that drop-down box.
13:39So, can you see how it's important that you select the right one, especially for something like that? So, you you need some system in place to record whose is whose CAT if you're downloading multiple CATs, so that you're look you're looking at the right one. We can't pull data off for all the CATs at the same time, we do one at a time. So, they'll all be in this drop-down box here. So, I've only got two. Now, what you can do, what a lot of people do, I keep this here because I do these sessions online. Once once we've pulled off this raw data file, which is what I'm going to show you in a second, you can delete it.
14:09So, I can select all that and then hit delete, and it will actually remove that CAT completely from the drop-down. So, a lot of people do that just to keep it tidy once they've got the data that they need, so the next time it's it's completely clear and you're and you're welcome to do that. Okay, okay so far, guys? Yep. So, we've plugged the CAT in, we've pulled the data from the left to the right, it's now stored on my computer, but it's stored within this program. At this stage, we can't do anything with
14:20people do that just to keep it tidy once they've got the data that they need. So, the next time it's it's completely clear and you're and you're welcome to do that. Okay? Okay, so far, guys? Yep. So, we've plugged the CAT in, we've pulled the data from the left to the right. It's now stored on my computer, but it's stored within this program. At this stage, we can't do anything with it. We've just got it off the CAT.
14:43So, what we need to do now is is get that file into a format, sorry, that data into a file format that we can then analyze and look at. Okay? So, you're back in the office and you say, "Right, I want to look at some data." Now, let's just say, for example, here, I'm going to say, "Right, this is all September, and this is October." And I'm going to say, "Right, I'm just going to look at October," which is just these two dates.
15:06I'm going to grab these two dates. Okay? And then, what I want to click next is, again, straightforward, the view button here. But, I don't know if you saw what happens and it it confuses people a little bit sometimes. When you select those dates, they turn blue. But, when I slide the cursor out of this box, it looks like they're unselected. Okay? They're not. They're still in a very light grey color. So, it's just normal.
15:33Don't worry about it. It just catch people out a bit. They think they've unselected it. So, we're going to get those two dates, and then I'm going to go up here, and I'm going to click view. And this opens what we call the CAT data collector. Now, remember, this is still within this CAT Manager program. Okay? So, what you're looking at there, has anyone ever seen this before, by the way, guys? This is raw data. Have you ever, anyone ever seen this? No.
16:04So, it's very simple what a CAT does, the way it records this data. The CAT simply records its status every second and puts it in a spreadsheet. So, every line of data here is a second. So, every second, the CAT says, "I'm in this mode, I'm picking up this signal, my sensitivity is set here, my blade angle's here, my paddle angle's here." And it does that every single second while that trigger's plugged in, while the trigger's held in. Okay?
16:36So, as you can imagine, for for a couple of hours' use, you've got quite a lot of data. So, some people prefer looking at raw data, like I'm looking at now. Um, some people prefer it being analyzed, you know, summarized, if you like, into pie charts and things. And there's pros and cons to both. So, we're going to just ignore the raw data for now. We'll come back to that later. Remember, what we're trying to do at the moment is get that into a usable file. Okay?
17:03So, I need to, remember again, this is still within the CAT Manager program. I need to get it out of there. I need to extract it or export it here at the top. This is another common mistake that people make when we get phone calls from people saying it's not worked right. If I click that export now, I'm going to export one line of data, which is the line in blue, which is, if you remember, it's one second's worth of data. It's no use to us.
17:32Okay? So, just remember, before you hit that export, you're going to go over to the left here and click select all. And you'll see that now jump up to 1584. So, a little tip for you to remember, if you go to click export and it says number one in brackets, you've missed a step. Okay? You're only going to take out one line of data. So, always click select all and then export. Okay?
18:03When you then click on export, it will give you three options. For what we're doing, we just want the first one, CSV. Okay? So, just remember, CSV is what you want, the very first one. And you're going to click export to CSV. And then, you're just going to find somewhere to save it. So, I'm just going to create a new folder for this again. I'm going to call it ESD 4 now.
18:33And I'm going to go into here, and then you can call it whatever you like. So, you might want to call it by the team name, the serial number, the date, whatever you want to call it, doesn't matter. Just call it whatever you like in that file format and save it. The other thing to remember, if you want to make a note of this, you can, no spaces in the file name. If you put a space in the file name, the online platform will reject the file. Okay? So, call it whatever you like, just do not put a space in there. So, I'm going to leave it, got my flies here, I'm going to leave it called the name it's already given it. When you click save,
19:11it'll usually automatically open up Excel, because a CSV file is an Excel file. And I'm just going to close that for now. And I'm going to close this, and I'm going to close this. So, what I've done there in those few steps is I've pulled October's data off that CAT, I've viewed it in the data collector, and I've exported it as a CSV file. As long as you can do that bit, you'll normally be all right, because just, for example, if you ever contacted me and said, "Pete, can you look at some, can you look at some data for me? I want to see what happened on this day," I'm going to say to you, "Can you send me the CSV file?"
19:50Yeah. So, as long as you can get that, somebody else can then help, if you like, you know, somebody else can look at it for you. It's that file that we need for that data. So, as you can see in here now, on my computer, that's that file. So, you know, I can email that to someone, send it to someone, it's just an Excel file, and it contains all that raw data that I need. So, what I was trying to explain before, now, what I could do now, just to keep things tidy, I've got that file saved securely on my computer, I could go back to the CAT Manager,
20:27and just to keep things tidy, I could delete that. Does that make sense what I was saying before now? Because I don't, I've got it now, I don't need it in there. I could just select that and delete it. I could even select the whole lot and delete the whole lot. Okay? Um, and it would tidy that program up for me. Okay? So, I just want to run through the steps again, just really, really quickly. Okay? Just as a reminder. So, we open up CAT Manager, and we connect our CAT. We get a list of dates on the left-hand side. We select the dates on the left that we want, and then we hit the transfer button. That transfers it from the CAT to my computer.
21:06I then, when I get back to the office, select the data that I want. So, let's say this time, I'm going to select that CAT, 710, and I'm going to say, "Right, I want September's data now." So, I'm going to pull, oh, going to click and drag, select that, and then I'm going to go to view. That's going to open the data collector. It takes a bit longer now, because there's a bit more data, you see. Okay? Once I get that, I'm going to make it bigger. Now, remember, before I click export, I'm going to go and click select all. And you'll see again that number jump up to 7,800 now. I'm going to click on export, I'm going to select CSV. I'm going to
21:30you know, because there's a bit more data you see, okay? Once I get that, I'm going to make it bigger. Now remember, before I click export, I'm going to go and click select all. Then you'll see again that number jump up to 7,800 now. I'm going to click on export, I'm going to select CSV. I'm going to pick where I want to save it, so I'm going to save it in the ESD4 folder again. Give it whatever file name I like, so this time I am going to rename it, just going to call it September 2020. Save it. And again, it opens it up in Excel. And then once again, close that, get rid of that, and get rid of that.
22:10So, any questions on that, guys? Was that clear enough for you, how to, how to pull that off? Yeah. Sorry, Peter. Where did you click CSV there? I missed that step. Right, I'll show you again. When you, when you highlighted all the data for the month, you said, you clicked CSV to save it. Yeah, so let, let me just show you again. So, here, I'm going to select September. September, click view. Yeah.
22:42Just make it bigger, just to make it easier. So, remember, before I click export, I'm going to select all. Yeah. And when you click export, you get three options. Can you see it there? My cursor is hiding it. CSV, XLS, or KML. All right, yeah. Export to, yeah. Okay.
22:55Now, the reason for the other options, just, just while we're looking at it anyway, we're, we're going to put this data into the online platform, okay? And within the online platform, we can see a map of where it's been used, okay?
23:15But do you remember I said to you, the way we used to do this a while ago was we'd pull the data off and we'd use the CAT analysis spreadsheet. Do you remember talking about that? That would show us the pie charts. So, how did we see the GPS? Because it's a spreadsheet, before we had the online portal. So, what you would do here is, you would then export to KML. Okay, and then if you've got Google Earth installed on, on your computer, watch what happens now.
24:03As long as Google Earth is installed, it would automatically open it. If it didn't, you'd just open up Google Earth and import that KML file. So, KML is the GPS tags. It runs a bit slowly, so just give it a minute.
24:35I should have done a smaller file really, but anyway.
25:06It's not a very fast computer, this little Surface Pro that I use for presenting on, so it's when you ask it to do quite a bit of stuff, it doesn't like it. But can you get the idea here, guys? You can see the little GPS markers there, yeah? It takes it a while, but eventually you can zoom in and see roughly where it's been.
25:23But the, the point I'm trying to make here is that we don't need to do that anymore. So, what, so, just to rewind, what we used to have to do traditionally, we would export as a CSV to get data usage, pie charts, what mode, etc. Then we'd also export that exact same data as a KML to get Google Earth position. You see what I mean? We, we don't need to do that anymore because we're using the online platform. It does it all for us. So, all you need to do is remember to export it as a CSV. And now my computer is crashing because, um, asked it to do too much.
26:16There we go. Okay, so, uh, Martin, are you okay with that now? That CSV thing, yep? Yeah, thanks, yeah. Thanks, Peter. So, now we have our files. We have our CSV files. So, the next step then, and again, I'm going to send you a link to this web page. You just go on the web page and, um, create an account, and then you can use it. It's free for, for basic use.
26:42So, we're, we're going to go to the, um, online portal, um, CAT Manager Online. And just like anything else, you're going to sign in. There we go. So, on the left-hand side here now, we have a few options. We want CAT Manager Online. And underneath that now, we have dashboard, upload usage data. So, I'm going to click on upload usage data. And then we have this screen come up. Now, a couple of things that are a little bit confusing on this, I'll try and explain the best I can, but if you don't understand, please, please question me on it.
27:22Let's just say, for example, that your organization actually uses the Bluetooth meth- method primarily. So, you've got 10 teams out there with 10 phones and 10 CATs. Under the online portal then, you would have 10 CAT operators, okay?
27:42Let's say that one of them is struggling to pair his phone. His phone's not working or, or whatever else. So, you manually download the data, like I've just shown you how to. When you upload it into the platform, to keep consistency, what you might want to make sure is that you upload it to the correct operator. Does that make sense to everyone?
28:05However, if your organization isn't using the Bluetooth side, you're just manually pulling all the data in, just allocate it all to yourself because all you're doing is using the online platform to summarize that data. You don't have to put it to the right person. The only reason you'd want to do that, I said, is to keep consistency so that if, if companies are sharing the same portal, you know, data is allocated to the right person. Does that make sense for everyone, that? I've just explained that, yeah? Okay with that? So, if you're just using it for yourself, which most people do, I'm going to select me.
28:38Even though technically it's not my data. And then I'm going to pick up the, uh, choose file option. And if you remember, we did, um, ESD4. We have the two options. I'm just going to select the first one, which was October. I'm going to click open. And then I'm going to click upload.

29:05I guess the other advantage of me recording this session is that if you guys wanted it for your own use, then I'll I'll happily send you a copy so you can you can go over it again, you know. Yeah, there you go. Okay, so it's it's saying now that it's the the data has been uploaded successfully, okay? It's saying duplicate logs ignored because as you can imagine, I've done this quite a few times now using that same data set. So, it was actually already in there. I was just showing you how you would you would upload it.
29:32Once that data is in there, we now want to have a look at it. So, I'm going to click on the dashboard button here now.
29:46And it comes up with this.
29:50It looks a little bit confusing at first, but don't worry too much about it. All this here, I I never use any of this. So, going back to what I was saying before, some organizations out there, they're they're all using the Bluetooth side. And what they've done is some of the bigger companies in particular, I think Amey's one of them,
30:10they've set up all different areas and contracts, you know, like telecoms, electric, Scotland, England, all that kind of stuff. So, that's all that's used for here. It's just when you've got a really big organization with hundreds of people using the app, you can just filter it out a little bit more by area and and contract. Um, I said you don't need to worry about that too much at this stage. All you need to do now is go to the date range here.
30:32So, if you remember, the data that we put in was for October. So, if I just click from, and then I'm going to go over here and select October. And I'm going to say, right, I want to see all of October. So, I'm going to click on the first, and then click on the last day. And then I'm going to click apply. And that's going to show me all the data that I've ever uploaded for October.
31:01And it appears down here. So, what this is now telling me is that for that period I've selected, historically I've put three CATs' worth of data in there. Can you see again why this knowing the serial numbers is important? Because I don't know whose these are, really. All I do know is it was CAT 710, the one that we were dealing with.
31:20So, if I click on that, it'll then expand that option. And as you can see here, if you remember from the CAT Manager program, we pulled off the 5th and the 13th of October, okay? So, we can now see that data and get a more of a summary of that data. So, let's just ignore the 5th at the minute because that's a bit confusing. I'm going to come back to that in a second. Let's look at the 13th. If I put my cursor over here and just select that, it gets that data for me, and that's what gives me this little pie chart up here now.
31:51So, let's look at what it's telling us. On the 13th of October, the total time the CAT was used for was 4 minutes and 21 seconds. It was used for 4 minutes in Genny. It wasn't used in power, 10 seconds in radio, and 1 second in avoidance. So, that's where we start getting this information from now, okay?
32:16Down at the bottom over here, if I look at it here, I've got the same information. 4 minutes 21, so this is total time, 4:21. Genny mode, 4:10. Power mode, 0. Radio, 10 seconds. Avoidance, 1 second. Any questions on anything you're seeing? Just jump in, say if you want to ask me.
32:50Let's look at the 5th then, and explain why I said that was a bit more complicated. You'll see there's two entries for the 5th. And the reason for that is that the CAT breaks things up into what it calls surveys. So, this is survey one, and this is survey two.
33:10It's a bit vague on how it does it, but what what it's trying to do is, just give you an example, you use the CAT in the morning for 15 minutes, then you stop using it, and you have a break from using it for about 15 to 20 minutes. The next time you start using it, it will put that data into survey two. You then have another break for 20 minutes, and you start using it again, survey three. You get the idea?
33:37So, you could look at a day and find there's seven entries for that day, there's seven surveys, and it's because they've had breaks in between, or they've moved location, if it's a gCAT. So, you could use it for 5 minutes here, walk 150 meters away, 5 minutes later, even though you've not had that 15-20 minute gap, it would still put it into survey two because according to the CAT, your position has significantly changed. Okay, so those two criteria it uses to decide whether to put it in the same survey or the second one. You with me, guys? Yeah.
34:14Now, the problem with that is what sometimes happens is quite often most days, you have at least two. Because I don't know if you've ever done this before, but when you get the CAT out of the van in the morning, what can you not help but do? Pull the trigger. So, you'll you'll pull the trigger, and then you put it to one side for half an hour. So, of course, when you do start using it, you're in survey two. And that's why you'll often find things with the with the first survey where it's sometimes a bit meaningless.
34:40Like 50 seconds, you know, or in walking with the CAT and the trigger in, or it could have been his morning test, you know, testing it on something, okay? So, just bear that in mind that it will break it up into these different surveys, and it's based on a a difference in time or a significant change of of location for it, okay? If we look at this one down here, so this is, so that's that's that CAT for October. We can look at a different CAT, so I'll go onto this one down here.
35:10So, this is on the 27th and the 28th, and it's all just put into one survey on this one. So, if I click on this one, the CAT was used for 19 minutes on that particular day. And this is what I call bad data, if if you like, because we've not got enough Genny usage. You know, the Genny's only been used for 30 seconds, 3% Genny. The bulk of that survey's been done in power, with 20% radio. So, when we when we move on a bit later about looking at what's good and bad, if I see data like that, I'm a bit concerned that we're not using the Genny enough, um, on that particular data set.
35:48The one for the day before, on the 27th, was a little bit better. 9 and a half minutes total time, 4 and a half minutes Genny, 1 and a half power, 30 seconds radio, okay? Couple of little points I want to make on this, um, when we start looking at analyzing data, is that these are just summary screens, really.

37:09it gives me this. And if I now click on PDF, and do test and test again, you'll see I get a different style of PDF now, which is the pie charts and things. And it's actually quite in-depth, this one.
37:27Can you see that okay, guys? Yeah? I'm not going to run through it because it's just what we're looking at. It's just a way of putting it into a report if you need to send it off to someone, really. So, it gives you quite a lot of information in there that you can print off as a PDF. But you do need to have the paid subscription to get that secondary, um, tab in there.

46:18Pete: Okay. So we're going to have a look at a couple of things now in terms of, um, a bit more about what the data means before I show you the second screen that we're going to go into as well. So, so a couple of things that we can get from this when we look at it, and, and a few things we need to bear in mind when we are looking at it is, let's look at the time first of all. So this data here is, is, is telling me that that CAT was used for nine and a half minutes.
46:49Pete: One of the things that you need to remember is that the time recorded on the CAT is what I call trigger time. So it's only the time the trigger's been held in, and it might not be a true reflection of how long they've spent doing the survey. So, um, it wasn't too long ago that somebody was pulled in, and I can't remember the exact timings now, but they were pulled in and said, "You've only used your CAT for five minutes," and he was adamant that he'd used it for, you know, 15 minutes or whatever it was.
47:17Pete: And, and they were both right in a way, because if you think of doing a CAT and Genny survey, think about how much time during that survey the trigger's actually pulled in for. You know, you could be connecting your Genny up, you could be letting go of the trigger while you spray something on the ground. So you just need to, just bear that in mind when you are looking at it, that that doesn't mean he's only done a CAT and Genny survey for nine and a half minutes. It means the trigger of the CAT has been pulled in for nine and a half minutes. He could have been doing it for 15, 20 minutes. Just give me a nod if that makes sense to everyone, and just understand what I'm saying there, okay?
47:50Pete: The, the other thing to remember as well is that sometimes this time is also down to how the operator uses the CAT. So if you've been on the courses with us and you, you might remember, one of the things that we teach people to do, let's use one scenario. Um, you're in a street and you've hooked up to a lamp column with the Genny, and you've got 100 meters of street light cable to trace with the CAT. Now we would teach someone to pull that trigger in and don't let go of that trigger. Find the cable and then follow the cable along that street, and as you follow it along, you'll be spraying it on the ground.
48:24Pete: Okay, and because there's a benefit into tracing and following signals is that you're looking for any sudden signal loss and things like that that might indicate joints and things. So we, we, we push that quite a lot of actually holding that trigger in and following that signal along. So he's just traced 100 meters of street light cable, and let's say it's took him three minutes. Another person that might have been trained differently comes along, exactly the same cable, he pulls the trigger in and he finds the cable. He then lets go of the trigger while he sprays it on the floor, and then he walks a meter or two down the footpath, then he pulls the trigger again.
49:02Pete: He finds the cable again, and he lets go of the trigger while he marks it. He would probably only log a minute. So one would do three minutes, one would do one minute, but if you, if you want to be fair about it, they've both really done the same thing. They've both traced that cable. Again, does that make sense to everybody, what, what I'm saying there? So there's a few factors like that which you have to look at when you, when you're looking at data. The other thing that's really important is, especially when it comes to cable strike investigations, is taking the data in context with what they've actually been doing. So I'll give you another example.
49:36Pete: Uh, you've got a team on a project for a week. They spend Monday and Tuesday doing all the CAT and Genny work. They use it for a really good amount of time. Then by the time Thursday comes, they're then excavating and they hit a cable. Somebody comes along and they only download the data for Thursday, and it says they've only used it for 10 minutes. But the truth is the bulk of that survey was done on the Monday, Tuesday. So can you see how it's really important to understand what they're actually doing when you're pulling data off? You need to have, people often send me data and say, "Pete, what do you think of that?" And I'm like, "Well, what do you want me to say? I don't know what they've been doing, where they've been working, how many cables there were."
50:13Pete: It's very, very hard. So when you are looking at data, the advice I would give you is, is, is please try and make sure you, you've got the whole picture of what they was doing that week, where they were working, et cetera. Another question people often ask me is how long should they be using it for? And it's a how long's a piece of string question, because where are they working?

So when I look at data, what I'd ideally want to do is if I'm looking at this data now, I would like to know where he was working, what site he was on, what they were doing, and I'd also like to see the stats plans to give me an idea of how many cables are potentially there.
50:47Just outside our office, we have um a street outside the office and in one footpath, there's seven electric cables. There's uh three HV and four LV, and on top of that, there's three house services. In the same footpath, you've got BT and cable TV and a water pipe.
51:05The opposite side of the road, in the other footpath, there's one comms cable. So can you see how just depending on which footpath you were excavating in would completely change how much time you would be using that kit for? Okay. Again, does that make sense, everybody? You're you're with me on that? Okay. So we need to have an idea of what they were doing and how much stuff's there before we start sticking times on it of how long they should have been using it for.
51:28One of the things that I like to do is, and it might not be a great example this, but I'm going to show you anyway. So on this one here, let's just move that out of the way. So I'm going to select this one here where it says he's been using it for 19 minutes. And then I'm going to click this next button over here, okay?
51:48And that takes me into a more detailed screen. But the extra information I've got here, which I think's important information, rather than just seeing how long he's used it for, what I can now see is what time did he start using it? 2 minutes past 10. What time did he finish using it? 11:38.
52:12Again, I hope that makes sense what I'm showing you there. So that's even though it's only a 20-minute use, he had that's the actual time he's been surveying, you know, he's been using it for. So I think that's a bit more relevant, if you like, looking at that information rather than relying just on on pure time. Okay.
52:28So yeah, this is the more detailed screen. And just while we're in here, I'll show you a few little points on this one. Um so I'm not sure if this was a gCAT or not. I don't think it is looking at it. Let me go back and find one that is. I think 710 is. Let's let's just click on that one and go next.
52:51So again, these are all the scans broken down. So we're going to talk about scans in a in a minute. Um and these are the different That's survey one, if you remember. Can you see top left here? It moves when I move it, but when I click on the data, just watch up here when I click on the data. That's that survey one. If you remember, that was just 54 seconds. And we said that might have just been, you know, a trigger pull in the morning or something.
53:17The main one is survey two. So we go down to here, we're into survey two now. Again, look at the top left, you'll see it change to survey two. That's where the bulk of the work was done, 20 minutes in total, okay?
53:26And these now are all the individual scans. So a scan is a trigger pull. So if I pull the trigger and hold that trigger for 5 seconds while I locate something, then I let go, that's scan one. I then pull the trigger again, locate something, scan two. You get the idea? So every time I pull and let go, it's a different scan. So this scan was for 12 seconds. This scan was for uh 10 seconds. This was for 5. You get the idea? So you'll have all these little short scans here where they've, you know, pulled the trigger and let go, pulled it, let go, and they're all individual here. If I start clicking on them, what it will then do is, again, I've got to be careful when I move the cursor. Let's we'll go on that one.
54:11Can you see what happens up here now? So for that particular scan of 27 seconds, where was he? He was here. So I can zoom out that little map a bit if I want to. And I can even change that to a satellite view. So do you see what I mean there about why we don't need the KML? Because it's it's within this online portal now. So we can actually see where he's where he's been with it. If I click on the next scan, just zoom in a little bit. It even gives you a little line of where he where they think he's walked. Now, that's if it's not very accurate, you'll see. I'll try and find some here. You'll see sometimes I mean, look at that one. It looks like he's been walking on the roof of that house. You know, so it's not massively accurate, but it does give you a good indication of where they've been.
54:53Just might have to zoom out a little bit now if it's somewhere else. Can you see that green line that's appeared there now? So that's where he was So that was a 3-minute 43 scan. Quite a long one, that. So this is what I meant before about that's where he might have been tracing something, you know, following it up, as he's gone round there. So that's quite a long scan on on that one. Okay.
55:19This all making sense, guys? Are you all okay with this, what I'm showing you? So this is like what I call the second screen, if you like. So if you remember, just to show you again as a recap, back button here, that was our first screen, yeah, where we picked the date range and got the dates up. And then when we say, right, well, well, I want to look at the 28th in more detail, so I click on that, and then I'm going to click into this here.
55:44Okay, and I click on that, and then we go into the more detailed one, which again shows us start and finish times here. Okay, and then that's where we get the data if we want to. Again, there's no GPS on this one, so it's just showing you where I am. Go back again, select the 710 one. Um we'll pick that one this time, see if it was somewhere different. There we go, slightly different position.
56:18I I'm hoping it also makes sense what I said at the beginning about maybe having a follow-up session in a few weeks, because it'd be good for you to go and play with this now and really just practice with it and have a look at it, and then maybe if I if I need to, you know, follow up with you to explain a few things that you might not fully understand. Um I've got no no issue doing that with you. So
56:39So let's just talk about scans as well while we're on this subject. Remember, a scan is a trigger pull. Don't worry too much about them in the fact that Well, let me give you an example. One of the companies that we've worked with last year, they were pulling all the teams' data in every month, and they were comparing them against each other. And one of the presentations I was at, they pulled up two teams, and they said, 'This team's done 3,000 scans this month, and this team's done 1,000 scans this month. So the team with 3,000 has done better.'
57:11But when you actually looked at the total time they'd been using it for, they were very, very similar. Go back to the scenario I talked about at the beginning, tracing that 100 meters of street light cable. You remember the first person who did it in 3 minutes? How many scans would he have recorded? One. The second person who kept letting go of the trigger and pulling it again, he'd have recorded maybe, I don't know, 100 scans. That make sense?

I would argue actually the fewer scans is better. You know, you're keeping that trigger in and you're following things properly. So, don't get too distracted with that thinking that because somebody's got more scans, they're doing a better job. It just means they're pulling the trigger in more often. That's all. They're not holding it in as long. Okay?
57:57Just clicking that right-hand arrow, if it does show you the trace that he's done. So, you've the one for 3 minutes 48 showed you the line that he traced. Yeah, that shows you where he's walked with it, exactly. Yeah, but the only thing I would say, Ali, is just bear in mind it's not that accurate. You've seen where the where the GPS thinks he's walked with the CAT. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so, but don't use it as that's where the cable is, exactly. You see what I mean? It's roughly where he's been. Yeah, it shows where he's been. If you have if you have a dozen dots, yeah, exactly, it shows less.
58:30So, what you might find with that, if you remember, that scan was about three and a half minutes, wasn't it? So, he's held that trigger in for three and a half minutes, and he's been following that cable. You might find somebody else, rather than having one scan at three and a half minutes, they've got, I'm no good at maths, but, you know, 100 scans at three seconds. And rather than seeing a line, like you say, you just see dots, you know, for each each one as he's as he's as he's gone up there. Yeah. And then we've got average scan and and longest scan here. Okay.
58:59Uh, sorry, just going back to that second screen again, just just to show you what you can do there. So, remember the second screen, the more detailed one. If we go into here, again, what we have at the top is the PDF option. So, go to PDF. Again, I'll just type test. Now, what this does is it breaks it into those surveys we talked about. So, remember survey one was the one with just 50 seconds, not very interested in that. So, I'm going to, um, in fact, this one, I think, has only got survey one. Anyway, generate. We're going to get a PDF. I need to move your faces out of the way.
59:33Just give it a second. There we go. That's our PDF report. And again, it'll break that down for us. You see, all the scans in there? And then it'll it'll even give you GPS positions. Can you see that? For each one. Yeah. So, again, this is just if you're going to send it to someone, you know, if you're emailing a report to someone, you can just easily generate a PDF.
60:01I'm just going to go back to the beginning and recap quickly. Okay? So, let's just go back to the homepage. So, first of all, remember we log on CAT Manager Online. We go to upload usage data. Just select the operator as yourself, choose file, select your CSV file, upload it. That's done. Okay?
60:26Then, when we want to interrogate the data, we go to dashboard. Don't worry too much about all the options, just go straight over here to the date range. Go here, pick any dates that you want that you've uploaded the data for. So, obviously, when you do create that CSV file, it's worth having a note of which dates you're interested in before you get to this. Okay? So, you always have to change the year first as well if you're going back in time.
60:50Um, so, I'm going to go October again. Going to say 1st to the 31st. Click apply. Give it a minute. The more data, the longer it takes. Once it's done, you'll see the CATs down here. Okay. And then, if you see the plus here, you just need to expand them. So, I can click on that and get the data for that CAT. We haven't looked at that one. So, this one here is 39 minutes 58 seconds. Really high Genny usage. I'm looking for, you know, 60 to 80% Genny usage, really. I would I certainly want Genny to be more than 50, but I'm aiming for 60 to 80% percent. Anything less than that, I'm I'm I'm wondering why they're not using it so much.
61:34Once we've got that, so, these these again are our two surveys. Can you see we've got a similar thing on here with the survey one and survey two? Survey one just 50 seconds again. Yeah, remember this is a different CAT now, and that's the main one. So, I can click on that. Okay. And then, I just need to move your faces out of the way again. Remember on this one, I can just click that right-hand box, go into page two. So, it said 39 minutes, but remember what we can now get is the start time. So, remember we ignore this first survey one.
62:01Start time here really was 12:00. Okay. Finish time was quarter past one, you know. So, an hour and 15 minutes, but the CAT's saying it's 40 minutes because back to the point I made about the time side of it. And again, we can click on each of these scans and, um, just let's go down a bit, you can see where it's been used. Oops. Okay. You can even go into street view on it if you if you like.
62:39You okay so far, everyone? Yeah? If there's anything you're not sure about, please do ask me. Oops. So, now we're going to kind of move on into a bit more of the what does good data look like? And I'm going to give you a few simple examples.
63:10What I want you to look at is is is is some I guess what I'm trying to say here is there's a few little warning signs that I look for when I'm looking at this analyzed data. Remember, we can always go back to the raw data. And sometimes you need to do that if you're not sure about something to get clarification, because we do get more information from the raw data. If we look at this survey here now, let's look at what it's telling us. So, it's saying on that day, he used it for 21 minutes, just to round it up. And during that 21 minutes, it was used in Genny mode for 19 and a half minutes.
63:49What you have to remember is that what this is really telling us is the trigger on that CAT was pulled in while it was in Genny mode for 19 and a half minutes. That's all it's telling us. Was it being used, though? Was it picking up a cable? Is it real? So, what we can get from this straight away is if we look across these these boxes here, so, remember this is total time, 20 minutes 53, 19 and a half minutes in Genny mode, a minute and nine seconds in power, 20 seconds in radio, none in avoidance.
64:23But look at these two columns here. This is where we get some extra information. If you remember from your CAT and Genny training, the Genny kicks out two frequencies, LF and HF. Don't worry too much about it, don't stress about it, but it sends out two two frequencies. And these columns here tell us how long the CAT has picked up those frequencies for. Okay. So, for

64:48Okay? So, for let's say 14, 14 minutes, the CAT has been picking up a Genny signal. Does that make sense, what I'm saying? So, if we ignore this bit, all that is telling me is the CAT's been in Genny mode for 19 and a half minutes.
65:05Now, what somebody could have done is sellotaped up that trigger, left the CAT sat on Genny mode next to a trench, and logged 19 and a half minutes of Genny usage. And trust me, this happens. Okay? But this is telling me that during that 19 minutes, it picked up a Genny signal for 14 minutes, which is great.
65:25It will never match exactly. If you think about using the CAT in Genny mode for 10 minutes, how long of that 10 minutes is it actually detecting the Genny signal? For example, you could be looking for something, or even when you're following a cable, if you remember from the training you did, your CAT's moving in and out of the signal, isn't it? You know, sometimes it's picking it up, then you're moving it to the side. So, I'm looking for it to be around half, at least.
65:48So, if I've got 20 minutes Genny usage, I'm expecting ideally at least 10 minutes of it picking up a Genny signal, you know, roughly. Okay, now this might not make so much sense at this stage of what I'm going to show you in a minute, but I want to give you a comparison where we get the opposite. So, here, this is good data. 19 and a half minutes in Genny mode, and it's been picking up Genny signals for, you know, 14 minutes. Let me show you some other data now.
66:15So, this was data from August last year, and it was sent to me following a cable strike for me to have a look at. And this is, I touch on this quite a lot about the problem with people relying purely on pie charts, because they don't give you the full picture.
66:42And it was this data here. Now, the company that sent it to me looked at this, they looked at that and thought, okay, is it a cable? But that shows that he's done everything right with the CAT and Genny. He's used it for 16 and a half minutes, he's had really good Genny usage, 63%, 10 and a half minutes in Genny. So, on the face of this, they thought that looks pretty good.
67:05Then the first thing I spotted was down here. Look at this now at the bottom. The CAT's been in Genny mode for 10 and a half minutes. How long has it picked up a Genny signal for? Yeah, 44 seconds. Likelihood of that, I'm like, no, that doesn't happen, really. You could argue, well, maybe he was looking for something for 10 and a half minutes and didn't find it. Like, but, you know, to me, that's an alarm bell. At this stage, I'm not accusing anybody, but I'm just saying it's a, it's a trigger that says there's something not quite right here.
67:28The other one that caught my eye was here. This is another good one to look out for, guys, if you're worried about people faking data. Longest scan, you remember what a scan is? Trigger pull. Eight minutes. I would find, I'm not saying it's completely impossible, but I would find it very hard to believe that somebody has managed to hold the trigger of a CAT in for eight minutes without letting go.
67:48Even if you're tracing something, you know, you end up letting go at some point, you know, for a minute or whatever. So, so I looked at these two things and thought, it just doesn't add up, this. But the problem from this stage we're at is I can't really prove anything. All I can say is I've got suspicions here that this doesn't look quite right. So, this is an example of where we would then go back to the raw data. I'm not saying for every single CAT download you do, you need to analyze raw data. I guess what I'm trying to show you is there's a few little warning signs.
68:17Where if you see something, you might think, right, I'm going to look at that raw data. Remember what the raw data was, guys? The CSV file. Do you remember that? The file we exported from the CAT? Yeah? Okay? I don't know where that is, though. Can't remember where it is. Okay? Or what it was even called. So, the really good thing that we can do in the online portal, rather than going, rather than me going back searching my computer for this raw data file,
68:42I can actually pull it back out again. So, if I go up here, can you see where it says CSV? Can you see that at the top? Just going to click on that. And once again, I need to move your little window. And it appears here. And now I've got that CSV. Again, does that make sense what I was showing you there? You don't have to go find the original file, it's already in there. You just basically pull it back out again, okay?
69:04So, this is raw data. Now, when you open up the raw data, I'm going to move you back to the bottom again. What always happens is this column F here, it always hashes out the date, and all you need to do is just make that column a little bit wider, like that. Do you see that, yeah? So, just make it a touch wider and the date comes in. And the way I look at this data now is I put the date in the left-hand column. So, I have column F on the left.
69:28And I'm not sure how, how good you guys are with Excel, but one thing that I find really handy, especially when I'm new to looking at raw data, these are the headings here. Okay, I'm just going to make them bold so you can see them. Now, of course, if I start scrolling down, I've lost the headings. So, what I do on here is I go to View, I go to Freeze Panes, and I tell it to freeze the top row.
69:54Okay, and that means that when I scroll down here, the headers stay. Now, remember what we're looking for. The, the, the, the warning sign we had was an eight-minute scan where it wasn't picking up a Genny signal, okay? Remember again what the CAT's doing here. Every single second, it is recording the state that it's in. So, this is the time, every second. Don't worry about this too much. This is pure signal strength,
70:22but this is the signal strength broken down into each mode. This is where the sensitivity is set up, okay? So, you know, your, your, your knob on the CAT, all the way up is 100, all the way down is zero. Every second, it records where it's set at. And this is the mode that the CAT was in at the time. So, we'll just look at those fields for now. And I'm going to scroll down. So, at the moment, the CAT's in power. And I'm looking for when it was in Genny mode for all that time. And it's here.

71:13Yeah. You know, especially on Genny mode, if you guys have used the kit, I'm sure you'll know is, going back to the lamppost scenario, what happens when you get further away from the Genny? The signal reduces, you've got to turn it up, haven't you? So, you could argue that on power and radio, you might have a long stint of keeping it the same. On Genny, that never happens, you know, you're always adjusting it to compensate for loss. So,

72:07The second one is, let's look at signal strength. So, remember two frequencies, 33 and HF. We've already confirmed this on the online portal anyway. They look big numbers, don't they, here? But if you actually look, it's nought point something. Nought point, it's nothing basically, it's background signal. So, for that whole eight minutes, it hasn't picked up a Genny signal. So, the two things we've got now are: eight-minute scan, no sensitivity control movement, and no Genny signal being picked up, okay?
72:36The next one is a really good one that we can't get from the raw data. Over here, in these two columns, we have blade angle and paddle angle. So, if you look at my camera for a second, if you imagine that's the CAT, blade angle is this, and paddle angle is this. And the slightest movement on that CAT will cause a different number here.
73:03So, let me show you real data where it's being used at the top, at the beginning, and what you'll see up here, can you see the difference now? Yeah, the CAT's moving, okay? The blade and paddle angle are changing as it's moving slightly. But when we get down to that eight minutes, what happens here for eight minutes? It does not move an inch.
73:25So, we've got eight minutes, just to recap, no sensitivity control movement, no Genny signal being picked up, and the CAT not actually moving. So, I'm pretty sure you can guess what he'd done. You wouldn't believe how often this happens, honestly. It's, um, because, and, and, and the sad thing is, the amount of times it actually gets passed because people rely on the pie charts.
73:49They just look at that and think, "Yeah, I'm happy with that. That's great." Not realizing it's all fake, okay? Any questions on that? Are you, you're okay with that, guys, yeah? Makes sense? Now, the other thing that caught them out, and to be fair, I can see why, is when they clicked on the data, just going to move you again, and went into the next screen to look at the GPS.
74:19So, remember, I'm looking for that scan. This, this was it here. Can you see there, 7 minutes 57 seconds? Yeah? But look at, oh, look at the GPS. That tells a different story, doesn't it? That looks like he's been moving. We know from the raw data that CAT didn't move an inch, but when you look at the GPS, it looks like he's been moving. And do you know why? Because it's so inaccurate.
74:47I'm sure you've all been stood there with your phone before, you know, and it, it just moves. It's the same with the CAT, so you can't rely on that GPS to see if it's been moving. It's very, very approximate. It's a really cheap GPS module in it. And if you look at the satellite view on this, according to the satellite view, he's been walking across those rooftops. Can you see that, guys? Okay, yeah? So, yeah, so we can't rely on that. And that was the thing that did catch them out, to be fair, a little bit, because they were like, "Well, look, he's been, he's been walking around with it." It's like, "No, he's not. It's just the inaccuracy of that GPS, especially when you're somewhere built up as well."
75:27So, yeah, so raw data does come into it, you know? Um, you can go back and look at raw data, um, if you need to, and you get a lot more out of the raw data. The other thing that you will see here as well, which I didn't show you before, so look at that scan line again. So, remember, this was a 7-minute 57-second scan. Once again, here it's confirming that. Can you see the zero and zero in how much it's picked up?
75:51But also look here. So, this, these two columns here are telling you that during that 7 minutes and 57 seconds, the maximum gain, the maximum sensitivity the CAT recorded was 86.5, and the minimum that it recorded was 86.5. So, can you see that's telling us the same story, that the sensitivity didn't move? If you look at some of the real stuff here, like this one before it, this was a 1-minute 53 scan, okay? But the max and the min, can you see that? So, that's telling us it has been moved, you know, during that time, you see.
76:27I mean, I'm hoping you can see from that, there is quite a lot you can get out of it, but as I said, when you're not used to it, this is why, if you remember at the beginning, I said it'd be good now for you to go away for a while and have a, have a go, have a go with it, have a play with it, start getting used to it, and we can always follow up, you know, at another time and go into more detail. And then again, up here, I'm just going to go back again, back to the data. Any questions?

Um, so, so, yeah, do get online and start having a play with it and trying to, trying to download some data off some CATs and, and see how you get on with it.
77:57So, we need to download CAT Manager onto the laptop and then plug in the, the CAT and then start transferring the data?

Even when they get good at looking at it, especially if there's been a strike, you know, they'll often get in touch and say, "Can you just jump on and look at this data with me before we make a decision on, you know, whether it was done right or wrong and stuff?"
79:00Is it USB to micro-USB or just USB to USB?
79:04It's, it's, um, mini-USB. The old, I always call it the PlayStation 3 cable.
79:23No, you, you have to, you have to, we, we just order them off Amazon. Um, you, you need to get good quality ones because, I don't, I'm not technical with cables and stuff, but we've found quite a lot don't work. Um, and I think they need to be, I think some of them are for data only and some of them are for data and charging. I don't know if there's a wire missing or not in some of the just data ones. So, just don't get the, the too cheap ones. Get the ones for charging as well. I think they have an extra wire in it, something, I don't know. But, yeah, we, we've had a lot of calls where people have said that, that it's not working, won't recognize the CAT, and my advice has been just swap the cable and then it's worked. So, if it's, if it doesn't work, it's probably the cable.

What, what, the way we used to run these courses, uh, well, the way we still do, is we do it in person, and what we would do is we'd bring in CATs, get, get it all set up on your computer, and get you plugging the CAT in, you know, and pulling the data off yourself and things. So, that's why I've been suggesting to Nicola that we kind of do it almost in two sessions. Do this one, you go away, get it all set up, get your CATs connected, and then, if we need to, jump back online again in a few weeks and, and do a bit more if we need to. Once you've played. Yeah.
